Proyecto Crecer (”Project Grow”) began in 2015 after years of street outreach visits showed a desperate need for a day center to help children who have family members who love and fight for them but live in extreme poverty. The children had dropped out of school because it was impossible for them to purchase uniforms, books and bus fare, and they spent their days washing windows or juggling at stoplights for tips.
“Crecer provides a stable, encouraging, familial atmosphere focused on education. They specialize in teaching older children to read, write and learn at their own pace. Their loving caretakers walk alongside these children and their families to provide opportunities for education, counseling and mentorship in hopesof breaking the cycle of poverty.
Crecer is operated by The Children’s Home Project, which exists to increase the love, safety, nourishment and hope in the lives of Honduran children who have suffered developmental traumas, and which seeks to aid them on their path to becoming healthy individuals and contributing members of society.
