Founded in 2007, Yo Quiero Ser (”I Want To Be…”) is a place of safety and refuge for orphaned children in one of the poorestand most dangerous areas of the city. The majority of the children will never be available for adoption, and three of them have special physical needs, which limits their rights in Honduras.
The staff, including the Director, two teachers, a psychologist and the caretakers, provide these children with the one-to-one, compassionate care they need to develop their own unique personalities while learning new skills and pursuing their interests. They provide a supportive familial environment where each child can grow, flourish and follow their dreams.
The pandemic, recent hurricanes and increasing violence have had devastating effects on their surrounding communities. In2021, their team was able to extend their education projects to more than 1,500 local children through online classes, and shared what food, hygiene supplies and basic necessities they could with their poorest neighbors.
